5 Friday Favorites: California Inspiration

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

We took some much needed family time the last couple weeks to head to CA. It was such a special time for our family to rest and enjoy some time on the beach. A change of scenery always helps me to get inspired and motivated to create. We are back and ready to hit the ground running with some amazing design! This week's post is dedicated to design inspiration from the sunny California coast. This specific style will always hold a special place in my heart.

1. California-Casual Style. I think it is fitting having just been in Malibu that I mention this beautiful, relaxed style. It is no secret that I am a lover of neutral decor. The key to getting this style right is sumptuous layers of neutral texture upon texture. Notice the shiplap ceiling, rattan pendants, bright and airy aesthetic, wooden furniture and neutral textiles.

2. Arched hallways with repeating pendants! There's just something about arched hallways and the historical charm they provide. I love the idea of adding repeating pendants as an added feature. I am always amazed by how much good lighting adds to a space.

3. Spanish style homes. Characteristic of warm colored barrel roof tiles, exposed wooden beam supports, smooth archways, and crisp white stucco, these beautiful homes can be found all throughout Southern California. They exude character, charm, and beauty.

4. Bougainvillea. I can not mention Spanish style homes without mentioning bougainvilleas, as they tend to go hand in hand. Theses brightly-colored beauties can be grown in pots, against a fence, or on an arbor or trellis.

5. Organic Materials. This is a big one when it comes to getting the laid back California style right. The use of seagrass or rattan baskets, naturally woven rugs, neutral linens and raw woods give that sense of bringing the outdoors inside.
